5 Ways to End a Writer’s Block

5 Ways to End a Writer’s Block

It’s basic human psychology that they become mentally exhausted and there comes a point where they become completely blank, and their mind is devoid of any ideas or creativity. This is what’s commonly known as a “writer’s block”.

Every great writer goes through this phase in their writing career, and many students can also experience this if they’re supposed to write a dissertation for their degree which usually ranges around 15,000 to 20,000 words for graduate programs.

Nonetheless, it’s important to know that this is natural and it’s up to the writer to get over this so that they can get back to doing what they excel at.

Here are 5 ways a writer can effectively end their writer’s block phase.

1. Changing the Topic

Sometimes, writer’s block may happen because you’re writing on the same topic repeatedly, and your mind is running out of ideas. This problem can easily be solved by moving on to other topics and areas that are different than the one you’re currently writing on. You may choose to come back to the specific topic later with a fresher mind.

2. Being Okay with Not Being Okay

Being a perfectionist can sometimes backfire. Learning to be okay with work that’s not always a 100% is completely fine as long as you know it’s just a one-off. Always chasing perfection can act as a deterrent for you in producing content. So, learn to be okay with not being perfect.

3. Taking a Break from Writing

You may need a break. You may be writing so much that your brain simply gives out. A change becomes absolutely critical at this point. A simple walk in the park, going to the movies, lunch with friends, literally anything other than writing can help.

4. Developing a Routine

Having a set time for writing and a set time for other things can help you balance everything out and focus on things accordingly.

5. Getting Someone Else to Help

Getting a fresh pair of eyes to have a look at your work can help by pointing out what it is that might be wrong and ultimately be disturbing the flow of your writing and causing your mind to go blank. Hence, it’ll be better to get someone to help you and give suggestions.
